The state of Utah Wildlife Resources and Trout Unlimited have joined up to create what is known as the Utah Cutthroat Slam. The partnership combines the excitement of fishing, the challenge of catching native cutthroat trout, with the benefit of contributing to conservation.
The state of Wyoming has had their own Cutthroat Slam for a number of years, but the Utah version, was recently launched in 2016.
The Utah Cutthroat Slam consists of catching the four unique cutthroat subspecies in Utah; the Bonneville, Colorado, Yellowstone and Bear River. To be a part of the cutthroat slam, is as simple as buying a $20 application, $19 of which will go to the conservation of cutthroats in Utah, and catching fish. There is no timetable on catching them, whether it be 1 week or 20 years. Once you catch one of the species of cutthroat take a quick picture, and send it into the state. Upon completing the Utah Slam, you will receive a commemorative medal as well as a certificate.
